If you have ever felt really hungry almost straight after a meal, then you are not eating correctly.

White bread and pasta suppresses the hunger hormone, ghrelin, really fast, which causes you to feel satisfied as soon as you have eaten.

Ghrelin soon rises above normal levels causing you to feel hungry, though.

Food that is rich in protein, such as eggs, chicken, fish, nuts, lentils and cottage cheese will assist you feeling less fulfilled immediately but will keep you feeling full for longer.

Eating protein will assist in you feeling satisfied and will prevent your hormones going up and down.

Eating a protein plus a carbohydrate for breakfast keeps you feeling fuller than having a breakfast of cereal only.

Did you know that you can become addicted to carbohydrates? It takes a long time to wean oneself off carbohydrates, and there are certain individuals that have a tendency to get “addicted” to cakes, breads and other foods rich in carbohydrates. Withdrawal from carbs can make you irritable and affect your moods.

A breakfast of eggs and carbohydrates will keep you going for longer during the day; more so than a breakfast that is high in carbohydrates and low in proteins, and will assist in the loss of weight.

If you have little time to hit the gym but have the desire to become healthy then here are a couple of tips to help you along:
• Wear your happy face; smile until the muscles in your face and around your eyes actually move. If you need help getting happy, call a friend to assist and to cheer you up.
• Drink water on the hour every hour. Sipping often helps reduce short-term memory loss and problem-solving skills, according to health experts.
• Eat avocado for a nutrition booster. Avocados are packed to capacity with fiber, monounsaturated fats and antioxidants that are healthy for the heart.
• Dusting will not only keep your environment spotlessly clean but will protect you from germs and allergies.
• Checking your posture is a good idea. Your neck takes a lot of strain when you lean over a desk all day long, so remember that moving is important to a healthy body and mind.
• Listening to music not only de-stresses a person but has a calming and soothing effect on the nervous system.
• Gardening is healthy for body, mind and soul. Breathing in “friendly” bacteria that is found in the soil activates the neurons that produce the mood-lifting chemical, serotonin, in the brain. While you are at it, plant fresh herbs and vegetables in order to have fresh veggies at your fingertips.
• Measure your stomach – this is not about vanity but about your life. Extra fat around your waist could mean heart disease, diabetes, or cancer; if you are carrying fat around your waist consult your doctor for advice on how to lose the extra fat.
